New book on Tigua art in English and Spanish

A new book by Jean Colvin, Arte de Tigua, describes the origins and evolution of Tigua art as well as the geography, economy and a brief history of Tigua from pre-colonial to present times.

Examples of both early and contemporary paintings in full color reflect many aspects of indigenous Ecuadorian culture as well as the changes that have occurred since this genre of painting began.

There are chapters on painting technique, mask making, the politics and economics of Tigua art and its impact on the painters and their families as well as the author’s own experience living in Tigua.
